BVSTools

This notice is for users of our MAILTOOL product that also use Microsoft Office 365 (O365) or Outlook.com as their eMail Server/Router for sending emails from their IBM i (AS/400, System i, etc).

Who Does this Notice Affect?
This notice is ONLY for users using Office 365 or Outlook.com as their mail router.

How Do I Know if My Organization is Using Office 365 for Email?

What is the Issue?
Support for basic authentication will be discontinued completely by September 2025 (Update: MS now says March of 2026 is the deadline).

What does this mean?
This means if you are using MAILTOOL and sending email through Office 365 and/or Outlook.com, you will no longer be able to use User and Password Authentication.  Instead, they are requring a "more secure" method of authentication, mainly OAuth 2.0

A few of you have already discovered that new accounts set up already are under this new rule, and other existing accounts are slowly being phased out to no longer allow user/password authentication.

BVSTools has had a solution for this issue for Microsoft Office 365 as well as GMail for over 10 years now.  Please see the following article for more information as well as how to transition to OAuth 2.0 when using MAILTOOL on your IBM i:

How Do I Switch From MAILTOOL or MAILTOOL Plus to GreenTools for Google (GMail OAuth 2.0) or Microsoft Office 365?
