IMPORTANT UPDATE

BVSTools will be incorporating January 1, 2009

As of January 1st, 2009 we will be doing business as BVSTools, Inc. This means that all invoices, payments, etc. should be addressed as such.

For each order that is made on or after January 1st, 2009 we will be including a new W9 form that you will need to forward to your AP department for vendor setup. If you require this form before making an order, simply ask and we are happy to provide this for you.

Keeping BVSTools.com Software Log Files in Check

Many software offerings from BVSTools.com include the use of log files that periodically should be cleared or archived.

Software such as SPLTOOL and MAILTOOL include such log files.

With SPLTOOL, the file SPLLOGPF is used to log commands that are run from within SPLTOOL.

With MAILTOOL, MLTLOGPF file is used to log emails sent using MAILTOOL.

These files can potentially fill up causing a MSGW status on your applications. Because of this, you will need to write your own routine to archive and/or delete records from these files.

Custom Solutions Programming Available

We here at BVSTools have recently been performing more and more custom programming solutions for our customers with great results!

Most programming solutions deal with creating web applications using RPG or writing applications that use our GETURI application to communicate with web services to retrieve data from banks, government entities, or even credt cards.

If you require assistance with any projects, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thanks!

PDF Encryption/Password Protection added to SPLTOOL and AFPTOOL

SPLTOOL and AFPTOOL have been updated to include an option to encrypt and password protect the PDF that is created be either of these solutions.

This feature is as easy to use as specifying a password on the Password parmameter now included with any of the SPLTOOL commands (SPL2EMAIL, SPL2FTP, SPL2STMF, or SPL2FLR) or the AFPTOOL command.

The requirements for these latest versions are at least V5R2 of the OS and JDK 1.4 or higher installed.

You can download the latest version of SPLTOOL by clicking here.

You can download the latest version of AFPTOOL by clicking here.

JOBWATCH Updated to Monitor for Specific Job Names

Job Watch (JOBWATCH) has been updated so that not only will it monitor for jobs in a particular state, but will also allow you to watch that certain jobs are running.

As an example, let's assume you want to make sure a job named TRIGGER is running. You simply set up this job name in JOBWATCH, specify the minimum number of jobs that should be running and you're set!

If JOBWATCH finds that this job is not running (or the number of jobs running is less than the minimum specified) the command that you specify will be run, making it easy to notify yourself or an administrator via email, fax, or even SMS text message.

You can download the latest version of JOBWATCH by clicking here.

Have an Idea for a New Solution?

Most if not all of our software was created because either we had a need for it, or our customers requested a specific solution. The chances are if you need it, most others do.

We encourage our customers to contact us with any needs they may have for custom applications or tools.

If your shop doesn't have the time and/or manpower, we are happy to help fill the gaps when we can.

Contact Us for more information or to share your needs and ideas!

Featured Testimonial

"We bought MAILTOOL five years ago and never looked back. Since then we’ve sent 247,000 emails with over 120,000 with attachments! Talk about BULLETPROOF! The only times we contacted BVSTools was to buy two other great software packages JOBWATCH and SPLTOOL Suite and when we upgraded machines."

FAQ Snap Shot Featured Software

This week's FAQ Snap Shot is taken from the main FAQ page located at https://www.bvstools.com/faq.html.

Q: I just upgraded to V5R3 (or higher). Are there any updates I need for any of your software?

A: IBM made some "security" changes to V5R3 (and above) and didn't make them very well known. This change affects almost all software that uses the /tmp directory for temporary storage.

This includes BVSTools.com software like SPLTOOL, MAILTOOL and AFPTOOL. To fix this, use the following command:

CHGATR OBJ('/tmp') ATR(*RSTDRNMUNL) VALUE(*NO)
